Why did you choose the Capital Region Go Red for Women to be this month’s ADKcares recipient?
I chose the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women as one of our business partners has recently shed some light on the topic and is pushing to bring awareness and education to the local community. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women over the age of twenty, which is 1 in 3, and 44% of women are unaware of this being the leading cause of death:
- Only 19% of women meet physical activity guidelines
- Sixty six percent of women are overweight/obese
- Fifty two percent of high blood pressure deaths are in women
By doing a small part of bringing awareness to people in the local community we may be able to adjust these statistics.
