Support for Windows 7 will end on January 14, 2020. We all knew this day was coming, but don’t fret. We’re a Microsoft partner and we’re all about silver linings here at ADKtechs so we’ll get through this together.
So what does this mean for my business?
“End of support” means that Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates or support for PCs running the Windows 7 operating system. As we’ve mentioned about a dozen times, security updates are important. They help keep your computer safe and secure. We like safe and secure.
Do I have to buy a new computer?
Technically, no. Compatible PCs can simply upgrade to Windows 10 for around $200. You can read more about those requirements here. If you have Microsoft 365 Business, you can upgrade your Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro for free. We don’t really suggest it though. It’s kind of like eating filet mignon on a paper plate. Sure, it works, but it’s probably going to get messy.
What’s so great about Windows 10?
We’re glad you asked. To put it bluntly, Windows 10 is cool; but to get the full effect, you’ll want to get a new device. Here are some of our favorite features:
Windows Hello*
Welcome to the world of tomorrow! Hello lets you sign in using your fingerprint, a companion device, or your face (we’re not kidding).
Cortana*
Whether you need to locate a file or check showtimes for the new Grinch movie, Cortana is the perfect personal assistant.
Windows Ink*
Parents everywhere are cringing at the thought, but Windows Ink lets you write (or draw) on your touchscreen without the mess.
Security
New threats require new methods of protection. Don’t just take our word for it, check out Microsoft’s handy 10 vs. 7 comparison here.
