Each month, one member of our team is asked to select an organization they’re passionate about to be an ADKcares recipient. This month’s charity was chosen by systems engineer, Chad Mitchell.
Why did you choose K9s for Warriors to be this month’s ADKcares recipient?
K9s For Warriors caters to military veterans who suffer the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, and other traumatic events. As a combat veteran, this program hits very close to home. K9s For Warriors provides each warrior with a service canine, equipment, training, certification, seminars, and legal instruction.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, manifests itself in many ways from severe anxiety and panic attacks to insomnia, flashbacks, mood swings, and depression. Service dogs are becoming a common and effective treatment for PTSD. Service dogs improve the difficult impacts of PTSD by providing a sense of safety and encouraging physical exercise. In addition to providing companionship, service dogs can also increase serotonin levels, lower blood pressure, and reduce anxiety & depression.
