Each month, one member of our team is asked to select an organization they’re passionate about to be an ADKcares recipient. This month’s charity was chosen by help desk technician, Zach Hamell.
Why did you choose Second Wind Dreams to be this month’s ADKcares recipient?
Through the first half of my life, my mother worked for a local nursing home that’s no longer in business. Every couple months there were parties and celebrations for the holidays, to which the staff’s family was invited. Naturally my mother took the opportunity to bring me to these gatherings where I met many people of varying ages. Some of these people were co-workers and some of them were residents at the facility that still had a lot of “fire in furnace”. As I’ve grown older and matured, I’ve come to realize that the elderly are often forgotten or cast to the wayside.
For my ADKcares recipient, I choose Second Wind Dreams as they cater to people living in nursing homes, assisted living, and memory care communities. Their focus is to help bring the dreams of the elderly to fruition. Second Wind Dreams is active in over 20 countries and fulfills over 2,000 dreams a year. This organization reminds us that no matter how old someone may be, they can still be filled with passions, desires, and dreams.
